Star House Lodge

Wow, the Star House Lodge is amazing! You cannot beat the location. We spent the majority of our trip out on the deck just watching the sea. Everything was clean and as described. Would definitely come back!

It is a great two-story house right on the cliff. The big windows provide beautiful views of the sunset. The house has a bedroom and a bathroom on the ground floor and a living area with a kitchen on the top floor. It is equipped with almost everything, and the online portal provides all the information. I will definitely rent again.

This is an amazing cottage. Beautifully renovated with comfortable beds and well attended to details. The sweeping views of the ocean is breathtaking and is perfectly located. This is a cottage that I am planning on revisiting without hesitation on my next stay. Thank you so much for opening up your home to us :-)

It was an absolutely stunning setting. We even spotted some whales in the afternoon & fishermen returning to port in the morning. The only drawbacks are as follows: No access to fire pit. The landscape was already hardened & set with nonflammable foliage. Unlike many other rentals in the area, no hot tub, no propane BBQ & as mentioned, a beautiful fire pit that we couldn’t use. We saw the neighbors using their fire pit Friday night-BTW. Plus, there was fire wood on site, in the wooden box. But the brandy (?) & mints were a lovely surprise! A sheet explaining the on/off for the overhead lights would be helpful. The reading book choices were odd. A book glorifying the wife of a confederate general? Mrs Robert E Lee? Go with book’s about modern art, seascapes, and or horticulture, as to not offend guests. Geraldo was superb. Truly kind & patient. Cozy throw blankets & heavy duty blankets would be nice. But newer thermostat kept us cozy. Also, the gas fireplace was great! The upstairs rug was heavily stained—FYI
Overall, we loved it! Thanks to all the staff. From the folks who clean to the front office!!!

We had a wonderful stay at Star House Lodge. The interior is very nicely decorated and is comfortable. The ocean view is beautiful, although there is a large shed adjacent to the Lodge that extends into part of the view to the south. We were very happy to be able to bring our Golden Retriever with us, as the property is pet friendly. We did have a problem with the water, but the rental agency immediately sent someone and the problem was being repaired. We did have to relocate due to the problem which was disappointing, but it was handled well by the agency.

We absolutely love to stay here it’s the best place to just enjoy the ocean views and relax! Super comfortable and easy to recharge your soul!

The highly anticipated getaway did not disappoint. The property with its dead gorgeous views was above what we expected. The overall experience was fantastic and the staff from Mendocino Preferred were very helpful. The home was clean and nicely decorated. Will for sure return in the future

It was great, love the area! The view was perfect! One downfall, for how much we are paying we had to do a lot of clean up. I understand not leaving the house a complete disaster, but to take out trash, clean kitchen etc is a little much when you are paying the amount you are. Even cheap hotels do not expect that. Before we left, we felt like we cleaned a ton to make sure we were following all the rules, instead of relaxing our last few hours on the property. Other than that the stay was amazing .

This property was in a great location along Fort Bragg coastline. The views were out of this world! The property was nicely updated which made for a great kitchen if you were cooking in. The property was extremely clean. Our favorite activity was walking the coastline trails starting at Glass Beach.

We rented the Star Lodge to celebrate our 35th anniversary. It did not disappoint! Beautiful views, lovely decor, extremely comfortable outdoor seating - we can't wait to return during whale watching season. There would never be a reason to leave! Although with Mendocino 7 miles to the south and Fort Bragg 2 miles to the north, there are plenty of reasons to get out for amazing hikes and meals. My favorite day included a long hike along the Big River trail and a nap on the 2nd floor deck facing the ocean and sunset. Heaven! It was a bonus that we could bring our dog to this very nicely appointed, and clean, home. A huge thank you to the home owners and Mendocino Preferred!

First,let me thank you for accepting dogs. The house was very clean and updated. The kitchen was fully equipped, nice and plenty dinnerware and silverware.
The only dislike about the rental is that on the left side of the property there is a eyesore of " yellow barn" that obstruct the south view of the ocean and doesn't match the house architecture. The location is perfect near a parks, beaches and 5'from grocery store and 10' from Mendocino.

Gorgeous property and location! It was so nice and thoughtful to walk in to a welcome letter for our group of 4, happy birthday sign for me with a box of chocolates, and a dog treat for our pup. They even had dog toys, dog bowls, and poop bags in a cute basket. The house is stunning inside and out! The decor, cleanliness, windows everywhere for the views, the deck perfectly situated to enjoy a sunset, honestly can’t say enough! The cliff side where it sits, is it’s own vacation. About 10 minutes away from downtown Mendocino. Close to the Botanical Gardens that are a must see. Met the property management company at their office and they were so friendly, professional, and were so kind with a misunderstanding. Loved it and strongly recommend it! Thanks for making my birthday weekend so special and memorable!

We return often to Mendocino County...love the climate all year round and especially the views. This location is all view, sitting out on a point literally surrounded by the sights and sounds of the sea. The cottage has two queen beds, is pet friendly and very private. There is a nice fairly complete kitchen, only thing it missing is a dish drainer. Nice coastal themed interior on two levels with comfortable seating to read or enjoy the view and two big tv screens,neither of which we used. Our treat this visit was a pair of beautiful Canadian geese, one about to give birth and her protector male. They were with us our entire week along with a family group of coastal deer, which was a delightful addition to our stay. Nice long walks in every direction and even a stairway down to the giant rocks during low tide...and down the street a pathway down to a gorgeous beach. We plan to return during the holidays but will be in a Mendocino Preferred property down the coast in Mendocino next time.

We made the drive from Sacramento to the Mendocino Coast for a 4-night stay to celebrate my birthday. There were the 2 of us plus our 5-year-old Yorkie. The Star House Lodge was the perfect size to accommodate the 3 of us - upstairs living area including kitchen, sitting area with a t.v.and views of the coast/ocean that are just spectacular. Downstairs includes a small sitting area with t.v., bedroom and bathroom. The house is equipped with all of the essentials. We prepared breakfast on three days, and dined out in Mendocino and Fort Bragg for lunch/dinner. Central Fort Bragg is just 2 miles north of the Lodge, and Mendocino a short 7 miles south. The house is very comfortable and isolated from any other houses in the area. Deer frequent the yard between the lodge and the ocean, and a lone Canadian Goose watching over the large field in back. The only issue we experienced was an inability to connect to the lodge wifi from our phones (I was able to successfully connect via my laptop). While the Lodge is able to sleep 4 people if you use the Murphy Bed in the upstairs main room, I would recommend this lodging for one couple as having one bathroom could lead to 'traffic congestions'. We thoroughly enjoyed our first trip to the beautiful Mendocino Coast, and if the drive wasn't such a long (and often winding) one from Sacramento, would likely frequent the area more often.

It was our first get-away since the pandemic began and boy did we enjoy it. It was just what we needed. Very quiet there and peaceful and it was exhilarating being right on the ocean. It was overcast the entire time, but that didn't matter. The place was perfect and our dog loved it too.

Couldn’t have gotten closer to the ocean - which was very important to us! Beautiful property with beautiful views. The only thing I would change is perhaps an updated couch (more comfort and larger) - and update some of the utensils (the scissors didn’t work for example).

Star House Lodge is the guest house on this beautiful oceanfront property. Quiet and private, yet near everything, the property is the ultimate relaxing getaway. Property is clean and provides most everything needed. The required stopover at the property manager's office to obtain the code for the property's keypad entry is unnecessary and the on-site "How Things Work" information binder requires some updating. Nothing that one cannot figure out, but would remove some guesswork. Thank you for a fabulous long weekend - we definitely hope to return soon!

Last minute 1st wedding anniversary trip to Mendocino and everything looked to have very limited availability but I called just to double check and the ladies in the office went above and beyond to help us find this amazing property.
Very clean, private and couldn't ask for a better view. We will absolutely be becoming back! As much as I want to give a glowing review because the house and staff deserve it, I also want to keep it a secret to make sure there is availability for our next trip :)

Our last-minute vacation to Fort Bragg was made possible by Mendocino preferred vacation rentals. They were so pleasant and easy to work with, answered any questions that I had before the trip and really helped us feel welcome. The house itself was absolutely stunning! A very nicely done high-end remodel and the place was spotless. I would love to come back and enjoy a slice of paradise in the future. The location was amazing and relaxing. Five stars

We really loved our stay at the Stat House Lodge. The views were amazing and the house was very clean. Great seating outside on the balcony or down below. One thing to note, it is not a two bedroom, it is a one bedroom and a separate murphey bed in the living room. The Kitchen could have had a few more cooking tools, thankfully we had brought all that we needed, and we were a bit disappointed that the out door fire pit was closed. Easy check in and really liked the electronic door entry. The info in the handbook references a washer and dryer, we couldn't find though and would have really liked it as we were there 5 days. Overall nice place, great retreat for a couple or a very small family. Hikes in the area wee amazing and the botanical gardens are a must. Enjoy!

The lodge has beautiful ocean view! It is very clean and comfortable. The kitchen is spacious and has everything you need (with nice appliances). It’s close to grocery store, restaurants and beaches. We had a great time here and will definitely come back again next year!

Loved our stay. An anniversary celebration of the Pacific Coast from Fort Bragg to the little town of Elk south of Mendocino. The place was beautiful and very well appointed. Loved watching the crashing waves from the upstairs...beautiful view. The location was perfect close to Fort Bragg and not far down to Mendocino, yet you felt like you were simply alone on the coast. Would highly recommend the Star House Lodge. Also, great communication and professional service by Mendocino Preferred Vacation Rentals, one of the best I've experienced in my years of traveling.

My husband and I stayed here for our 30th anniversary. The place is like a studio with breathtaking views,very peaceful and super quiet since we had the entire property to ourselves. Each morning we sat at the cliff to drink our coffees and watch the morning unfold over the ocean. The property is near downtown,most restaurants were opened with outdoor dining with face masks policy in place. I would definitely return to the area and hopefully stay again in a Mendocino Preferred Vacation Rental, they have nice selection of stays and are well taken care of.

The Star House Lodge is a prefect getaway. The accommodations were excellent, great ocean view, a wrap around deck, very clean, a well stock kitchen, and total privacy for a restful vacation.

Great location with a private access to the ocean that is very unique. The views are just awesome here. Kitchen is great but no outdoor grill.
Internet was very fast but the interface requires you to constantly log in which can be confusing to your devices (getting them to the log in page can be troublesome because they will be on the network but not able to access the internet). It works every time though so previous reviews that said it was spotty are dated.

Only complaint: Outdoor Fire Ring was closed but was depicted in the pictures. We were disappointed because we planned to use it and were not able to.
